- Two reasons off the top of my head:
- 1. They believe owning the technology is cheaper than licensing it.
- 2. They can keep the technology out of the hands of competitors.

- The real question is what they intend to do with the technology once
- they own it , and whether those plans include the personal computer market,
- a market quite distinct from the set top box market.
